Whether your site is under construction or ready for the world, you can control who sees it using your Privacy Settings. These options help you decide if your site should be publicly visible, hidden from search engines, or totally private.

Where to Find Your Privacy Settings

To adjust your site visibility:

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard

  2. Go to Settings > Reading

  3. Scroll down to the Site Visibility section

  4. Choose the level of access you prefer (explained below)

  5. Save your changes

Privacy Options Explained

  • Public

Your site is visible to everyone and can be indexed by search engines like Google.

  • Hidden from Search Engines

Visitors can access your site if they have the link, but search engines are discouraged from indexing it.

  • Private

Only people you invite can view the site. Great for internal projects or pre-launch previews.

When Should You Use These Settings?

  • Public – For live, active websites ready for marketing or public traffic

  • Hidden – While you’re working on SEO or final design before a soft launch

  • Private – For pre-launch builds, client previews, or internal company sites
